For our pre-trials, we confirmed our setup for our experiment along with the feeding and incubation process. The incubator worked very well, and ample time was given for feeding and observation of the larvae. The Trypsin inhibitor that we had ordered did not yet arrive, but it is on its way and will be here soon. We were very happy with the development of the larvae as well as the very low mortality rate (About one death total). We plan to provide our own containers in order to create a standard environment. Overall, the experiment is exactly where we want it to be at this point, and once our chemical arrives we will be ready to move ahead.

We decided on our topic in late June after watching a news report on the Zika virus. Our idea was refined even further after studying numerous articles on the national library of health medicine. This ended up being our most reliable resource as well as Google Scholar. Our main plan is to treat larval mosquitoes in order to inhibit their growth and development. We have been working closely with the Michigan State University Entomology Department in order to treat and contain the mosquitoes.
